When is Father's Day 2017 ?

Father's Day is a festival to honour your father for everything he did for you. This festival is celebrated with immense enthusiasm and lot of charm across the globe.

Fathers Day is celebrated on different dates in different countries. Most countries including US, UK, Canada, Chile, France, Japan and India celebrate Fathers Day on the third Sunday in June. President Richard Nixon declared the date of Father's Day festival in US in 1972.

The date and style of celebrating this festival differs from country to country but one thing that remains noticeably same is the spirit of this occasion. Everybody take the opportunity to honour their father and tell them how much they are loved and appreciated. In todays world, people celebrate this occasion with their grand dad, father-in-law, uncle, stepfather or many other men who is caring and protective as a father.

Why we celebrate Father's Day? How did it start?

Many historians believe Father's Day was founded by Grace Golden Clayton in West Virginia, USA, on July 5, 1908.

A year and a half before, a town nearby called Monogah had suffered a mine explosion which saw more than 360 men die. More than 200 of the victims were fathers who left behind widows and children.

Grace was moved by this and after speaking to her Pastor, Reverend Robert Thomas Webb, she initiated the idea that there should be a special day dedicated to honouring fathers.

She chose July 5, 1908 to celebrate Father's Day, as this was the nearest date to her late father's birthday.

However, Clayton's Father's Day was a flop as the day was not promoted outside of the town, no public statement was made to the city council and, more importantly, it was overshadowed by a huge July 4 Independence Day festival the day before with over 12,000 people in attendance.

So the initial date of July 5 turned out to be a bad idea.
